Self-Reflection Worksheet
Worksheet updated on June 28th, 2024
Healthy self-reflection skills help clients in therapy learn how to be more aware of their behavior. When working with clients on methods to improve their reactions to challenges, knowing how to slow down reactions, think situations through, and be more aware of their feelings and triggers can help a client understand how to improve their behavior.
Learning self-reflection skills helps promote self-awareness. It also teaches clients how to think things through before reacting and how to be more aware of how they are interacting with their environment.
About This Worksheet
Self-reflection is an important skill to learn when working on modifying behaviors and reactions to upsetting situations. This Self-Reflection worksheet helps therapists teach clients how to self-reflect and improve their behaviors when reacting to challenging situations. With this worksheet, the client learns how to self-reflect to improve how they interact with their environment.
With the help of this worksheet, your client can learn how to interpret a situation in a healthier way, which can improve behaviors and reduce reactivity. It can be used with adolescents and adults who are participating in cognitive and behavioral forms of therapy.
Instructions
This worksheet serves as a record of behavior for a client who is learning how to be more self-aware. The client is instructed to answer the questions in each row when reflecting on a significant event in their day.
Begin by introducing this worksheet and providing an example of how to complete the exercise. Complete the first row with the client to help them get acquainted with the practice. Then, assign the worksheet as a homework assignment to be completed in between sessions.
When the client returns, review the Self-Reflection worksheet and discuss what the experience was like for the client. Encourage them to continue to use the exercise on the worksheet as needed while they are working on improving self-reflection skills.
Thank you! I plan to use these sheets for a patient I’ve been seeing who currently shows little motivation to change self-destructive behaviors, binging on alcohol and drugs, etc. but seems to value coming to therapy.
