Mindfulness Activities For Kids

Children can benefit from learning and practicing mindfulness skills. Mindfulness can help kids cope with uncomfortable feelings and calm their minds. It can also help with improving concentration. Mindfulness can be used as an aid in improving behavior at school and home, as well as reducing reactivity caused by stress.

Mindfulness activities help children prepare for stressful situations by teaching them what to do when faced with challenges. They can be simple and fun, and with practice, can help a child learn how to regulate their emotions.

About This Worksheet

This is the Mindfulness Activities for Kids worksheet. This worksheet provides three simple mindfulness activities that children can complete easily and use in school or at home. It also provides reflection questions and a drawing exercise to engage the child in the activities outlined on the worksheet.

School-aged children can benefit from the activities on this worksheet. It can be used in individual, family, and group counseling settings, and should be reviewed with the parent as well as the child.

To begin, provide the child with a brief education about what it means to be mindful and when they should use mindfulness to cope with their feelings. Explain the introduction and directions and review each mindfulness activity with the child.

Allow the child to complete the reflection questions. They may write or draw their responses and may need guidance while completing this worksheet. When the child has completed the reflection questions, review their responses with them and remind them of when it is important to use mindfulness.

The provider may choose to include the parent while completing the worksheet, or they may provide them with instructions on how to implement the mindfulness activities at home. Provide a copy of the completed worksheet to the child or parent at the end of the session.
