Love Languages Worksheet

When working with clients who are trying to boost intimacy in their relationships, it is important to explore how love is communicated and how a strong connection is built between partners. Couples often struggle with understanding the best ways to meet each other’s needs for affection, which is why exploring love languages can be a helpful tool to use in therapy.

The 5 love languages outline major ways a person gives and receives love. They are often referenced in couples counseling sessions when working on improving intimacy. Reviewing the 5 love languages can help couples explore ways to express love to each other.

About This Worksheet

Learning about the 5 love languages can help people in counseling learn about how they like to give and receive love. They consist of the following:

  • Acts of service
  • Quality time
  • Words of affirmation
  • Exchanging gifts
  • Physical touch

The Love Languages worksheet summarizes the 5 love languages. It is a helpful tool for clients who are learning about ways to boost affection in their relationships.

Use the Love Languages worksheet with adults in individual or couples counseling. It may also be used in marriage counseling groups at the therapist’s discretion.

Instructions

Review the introduction and the 5 love languages with the client or couple. Use the examples provided to explain each love language and how they are used to express love.

Allow the client to answer the reflection question. If working with a couple, you may ask them to complete the question together or individually.

If each partner responds to the reflection question individually, allow them to take turns sharing their responses. Then, start a dialog about how the 5 love languages can be used to improve the quality of the relationship.
