Coping With Bullying Worksheet

Coping with bullying can be challenging. Being singled out by peers can cause a child to feel alone and helpless. Victims of bullying often feel like they are powerless against a bully, but learning healthy coping skills for handling bullies can help them feel empowered to stand up for themselves and ask for help.

Teaching a child healthy ways to cope with bullying is instrumental in building the courage to advocate for themselves and protect their personal space. It can also encourage healthy communication and conflict resolution skills within peer groups.

About This Worksheet

Teaching children how to advocate for themselves and cope with bullies can boost confidence and encourage them to claim their personal space. It can also help with early detection and intervention in peer groups. The Coping With Bullying worksheet provides 3 coping skills and reflection questions to help the child learn healthy behaviors and develop a plan for dealing with bullies.

The Coping With Bullying worksheet can be used with children and adolescents between the ages of 9 to 18. It is best utilized in individual counseling sessions.

Instructions

Introduce the Coping With Bullying worksheet and review the introduction and coping skills with the client. Then, answer the reflection questions with the client to create a plan for coping with bullies.

While working on the worksheet with the client, you may ask them questions to prompt self-reflection, like:

  • What strengths do you have that give you confidence?
  • What fears do you have about standing up to a bully?
  • When and how will you ask for support from a parent or teacher?

End the session by reviewing the plan with the client. If needed, you may also include the parents in reviewing the plan. Provide the client with a copy of their completed worksheet for reference.
