Anger affects everyone. It is a powerful emotion that can be triggered by many different things. You may feel anger from an upsetting situation, stress or another emotion you don’t entirely understand. Sometimes, when we do not understand our anger or how it negatively affects us, it has a damaging effect on our quality of life. Feeling angry is a different experience for everyone.

If anger is not properly managed, it can cause a person to act out in rage. Rage is the behavior of acting out violently or aggressively toward other people, objects, animals or yourself. People who are angry will use rage as an outlet to cope. This is because they do not know healthy ways to manage their anger. In order to understand how to manage your anger, you must first understand how your anger is affecting you and your quality of life.

It also includes a short exercise to help people reflect on their own anger. Through this anger, a client will be able to determine if their own anger is affecting their life in a negative way.

This worksheet is a great way to start a conversation about including anger management skills in treatment. It can be used for psychoeducational purposes, but should not be used to determine a diagnosis or method of treatment. It is great for adolescents and adults and should be used in an individual counseling setting.


Before assigning this worksheet to your client, be sure to explain what anger is and how it can affect a person. When you are confident that the client understands what anger is and how it can negatively affect a person’s life, instruct the client to complete the questions.

When the client is finished, review the results. Have a discussion with the client about each of the questions they marked yes. Reflect on how their anger may be impacting their life.
