| Welcome from Chad J. Angotta, M.A., M.F.T. |
|
Finding your way through emotional issues can be a daunting task. It can also be an opportunity to enrich your life and the lives of those around you.
I've been counseling people for over 25 years and the courage of those who have overcome emotional adversity has been truly inspiring to me. I believe we have an innate drive to muster both the internal and external resources necessary to heal ourselves. With a little help and a bit of hard work, we truly can change our lives.
This web site is an adjunct to my private practice and, hopefully, a small resource for those on the path of personal growth and recovery.
There are articles, links, book reviews and other information on a variety of emotional issues and topics. I hope that some of what you find here is useful in your pursuit of emotional health and well-being.

The Anxiety & Phobia Workbook
by Edmund J. Bourne, Ph.D.
I've assigned this book dozens of times as an adjunct to counseling. It provides step by step guidelines and exercises that can assist in achieving a full and lasting recovery. I also like the fact that Bourne focuses on spirituality as a part of recovery without getting preachy or advocating for any particular religion.

This technique is described in Dr. Andrew Weil's book, "Eight Weeks To Optimum Health", along with a wealth of other holistic and nutritional information. Check out the review of this book or head over to Amazon.com for more information.
This is a quick and easy way to reduce stress. A little practice will bring great results.
Follow these simple steps;
Place your tongue in the yogic position (touch the tip of your tongue to the inner surface of the upper front teeth, then slide it just above them.)
Exhale completely making an audible sound (a whoosh).
Close your mouth and inhale quietly through your nose to the count of four.
Hold your breath for a count of seven.
Exhale audibly through the mouth to a count of eight.
(This constitutes one breathing cycle.)
Repeat for a total of four cycles, then breath normally.
Increase the number of cycles to eight as you feel more comfortable with this exercise.
Dr. Weil states that this technique has may benefits including, "increasing the ratio of parasympathetic to sympathetic nervous-system activity, decreasing internalized anxiety".
